USSE exposes the guidelines of the European forestry policy related to forests in the General Assembly of Bizkaia

23 / 09 / 2024

The managing director of the USSE, Leire Salaberria, appeared last September 12 at the General Assembly of Bizkaia to explain the fundamental aspects of the configuration of the European forestry policy related to forests and how the USSE, in representation of the private owners of its regions, tries to contribute to it.

In her presentation, Ms. Salaberria insisted on the need to move from a linear economy based on fossil resources to a circular, bio-based economy and described the role of forests, forestry, forestry and research in the so-called “green transition” as “strategic”.

He also stressed the importance of active sustainable forest management for resilient forests in the current context of climate change and the need for this to be accompanied by a regulatory framework that supports it.

In this sense, he stated that “instead of seeking the romantic recreation of a landscape that will not return, we should manage our ecosystems to prepare them to adapt to climate change”.

He also reviewed the different actions that the USSE has carried out over the last few months with the aim of showing the diversity of the different forest realities of the regions it covers.

Leire Salaberria also mentioned the celebration of several events that the group has organized in recent months with the presence of forestry experts from all over Europe, regional, national and European institutions, as well as representative entities from all the social, economic and environmental fields involved, in which the importance of active forest management has been highlighted, as well as the existence of different forest management models, all of them valid and complementary to each other, depending on the objectives pursued in each case.
