The UIK summer course Carbon markets based on sustainable forest management will be held on July 15 and 16 in San Sebastian

The summer season arrives and with it the summer courses of the UIK with an essential appointment for forest ownership and management, industry and entities interested in offsetting their carbon footprint. This is the course “Carbon markets based on sustainable forest management”, organized by the USSE and Basoa Fundazioa. 

The increase of CO2 in the atmosphere is one of the main generators of problems related to climate change on the planet, and the improvement as well as the maintenance of forests can help mitigate its effects. 

The implementation of carbon markets is set to be an opportunity to address this circumstance. However, there is a certain degree of uncertainty about their operation and reliability. Their implementation requires an advanced scientific and technological application, as well as a methodology that verifies the achievement of the objectives. In addition, they must be adjusted to the forestry reality of each site. 

This training will focus on the analysis of generic concepts of climate change, the implication of forests in global warming and the possibility of implementing carbon markets. The case of Euskadi will also be analyzed in this regard on the basis of sustainable forest management.
