USSE strengthens its cooperation with the Xunta in favor of the Galician forests

USSE has held a fruitful meeting with the general director of Planning and Forest Management of the Department of Rural Environment of the Xunta de Galicia, José Luis Chan, with the aim of strengthening cooperation in favor of the Galician forest. The meeting was also attended by Antonio Rigueiro and Francisco Dans, president and vice-president of institutional relations, respectively, of the Galician Forestry Association (AFG).

During the meeting, relevant issues were discussed, such as the future regulations on European associations or the Galician Forestry Plan 2021-2040 “Towards carbon neutrality”, which aims to achieve 425,000 hectares of area occupied by native hardwoods and reduce the extent of eucalyptus by 5%, as well as the possible organization of a scientific-technical meeting on pinus radiata in autumn 2025, among other issues.

For USSE it was an opportunity to approach once again, thanks to its partners of the AFG, the reality of the Galician forest and the issues that are currently most relevant for forest owners in Galicia. It is this vision of what is really happening on the ground that helps USSE's work in defending the forestry reality of its southern European regions before the European institutions.
